The suspension is important on a small-wheeled bike. A Brompton’s suspension is provided by a polyurethane block between the main and rear frames; lightweight and effective. Whilst it helps to absorb bumps in the road, the natural damping of the material also helps to avoid excessive “bounce”, helping with pedal efficiency.
Historically, Brompton has provided a choice of two different suspension blocks, a firm block, and a standard block. However, the design has been refined using new materials and a new compression profile which makes it more suitable for a much wider range of riders. As a result, we now only use one type of suspension block type with our bikes. The hardness of the new block is between the two old types of suspension.
